Issues:
..........Being a teacher by profession, education is first on the list. Texas ranks almost last in education among all the states. We cannot continue on this path. We must meet the highest standards in education for our children. The schools must be well funded. Our children must have programs to meet their needs. Our teachers must be paid well and have the teaching tools they need. And learning can only take place in a safe environment.
..........Good health care is a must. Texas ranks in the top for the number of citizens that DO NOT have health insurance. This state being one of the largest, must zero in on this and make sure we are not ignoring people, especially our children. Children are our future and care must be given to them. We must expand the Children Health Insurance Protection Service or, CHIPS as it is called.
..........The environment is another concern of mine. Texas ranks among the top states polluting our air and water, and we are at the bottom when it comes to spending for our environment. We must develop plans to preserve our water and keep it safe and clean up our air in line with the Clean Air Act. Recycling needs to be expanded.
..........Energy costs and consumption; high taxes and insurance rates (which are some of the highest in the nation) MUST be dealt with.
..........The Trans Texas Corridor must stay out of our counties. I have been against this from the start. There will be very little benefit, if any, to our counties. I will fight to keep it out. When I lived in Houston , a heliport opened up close to our home. Helicopters flew over our subdivision and our elementary school. We banded together as homeowners and fought to have it shut down and it did.
..........There are other issues for the farmers and ranchers, small business owners and for law enforcement, where spending for programs ranks near the bottom among all the states. I am sure that you the people, in the three counties in this District 28, have issues that you want addressed. I am willing to listen and to fight for you.
Our government must be accountable. Each program must be studied and solutions must be for the common good. Expenditure for each program must be for the common good. Government is not the problem in our lives-government is a good thing. Change must come from the people leading us. I feel that I can help bring that change.
Our counties are growing and changing. We are becoming the next extension of Houston . But, we are still homeowners, farmers, ranchers, small business owners, horse lovers and so on. We are country loving people and we cannot let others create for us. We can move into the new position that is being placed upon us, but we can still maintain our country lifestyle, the reason we all live where we live.
You may call me at 281-433-9417 or e-mail me at dorbot@flash.net. I will listen to you, attend your events, write legislation addressing certain issues and I will protest with you if that is necessary.
